You don’t need to have everything figured out right now. That first pregnancy appointment is a chance to pause, take a deep breath, and get the answers you’ve been looking for. It’s where compassionate professionals take the time to listen, explain what’s happening in your body, and walk you through your options. This moment marks the beginning of clarity and calm, offering the reassurance and support you need to move forward with confidence.

Why Your First Appointment Matters

Your first pregnancy appointment is the foundation for understanding where you are and what comes next. This is when you can confirm whether you’re truly pregnant, learn how far along you may be, and discuss next steps for your situation. It’s also an opportunity to ask questions and receive accurate medical information from professionals who care about you.

This visit can also identify health concerns early, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and connect you with resources if you need prenatal care or other community referrals. Every appointment is private and focused entirely on your needs, helping you take the next step with confidence.

What Happens at Your First Appointment

During your first visit, you’ll meet with one of our licensed medical staff for a comprehensive, compassionate check-in. Here's what the appointment usually includes:

Pregnancy Test & Medical History Review

You’ll begin with a free lab-quality pregnancy test and a brief review of your medical history. This helps our medical team understand your background and provide personalized care.

Ultrasound Exam: What It Shows

If your test is positive and you're far enough along,
a limited obstetric ultrasound can confirm how far along you are and check for natural viability (a detectable heartbeat).

Health Provider Consultation & Support

You’ll meet with a
licensed medical provider who will answer your questions, explain results, and discuss your options in a safe and supportive environment.

STI Testing and Medical Referrals

Because sexual health is important at every stage,
STI testing is available during your visit. We can also provide referrals for ongoing medical care or community resources if needed.

Questions You Can Ask During Your Visit

Wondering what to ask during your appointment? Here are some questions that many women find helpful:

  1. How far along am I?
  2. What are my options?
  3. When should I schedule my next ultrasound?
  4. What if I’m feeling unsure or pressured?
  5. What symptoms are normal in early pregnancy?
  6. Can I talk to someone about emotional support?
  7. How can I protect my health and my baby’s health right now?
  8. What over-the-counter medications are safe? Which ones should I avoid?
  9. What community resources are available to me?
  10. Is my information kept private?

There are no wrong questions. Our goal is to listen, support, and provide medically accurate answers without judgment.

How to Prepare for Your Appointment

Feeling a little nervous? That’s totally normal. Here's how to make your visit a little easier:

What to Bring With You

Bring a valid photo ID and a list of any medications you're currently taking. If you have a Pregnancy Verification from another medical provider, be sure to bring that in as well.

You can also bring a trusted friend or partner for emotional support if you’d like.

How to Feel More Comfortable

Try to arrive a few minutes early to relax before your appointment. Take deep breaths, remind yourself that you’re in a safe place, and remember that you don’t have to have everything figured out today. We’re here to help you take one step at a time.

Next Steps After Your First Appointment

After your initial visit, you’ll have a clearer picture of your health and pregnancy status. If your test and ultrasound confirm a viable pregnancy, we can help you explore your next steps, such as continuing the pregnancy, creating an adoption plan, or simply taking time to think through your options.

If you’re not pregnant, we can help you understand your cycle and provide information on natural family planning. If you test positive for an STI, our team may be able to treat it, or we will help connect you to appropriate medical treatment.

Whatever the results, you’ll leave your appointment with information, resources, and caring support to guide you forward.
